These authentic lentils feature a creamy white color and a mild, subtle flavor that beautifully absorbs the aromas of the spices and herbs used during cooking. Highly versatile in culinary applications, Urid Dal is essential for preparing traditional South Indian dishes such as crispy dosa pancakes, soft idlis, savory dahi vadas, and thin papadams. It is also perfect for tempering rice and chutneys or as the base for a rich, flavorful bowl of dal and homemade curries. For optimal preparation, rinse the lentils thoroughly and soak for 30 minutes to four hours. They can be cooked in an instant pot for 8-10 minutes, a pressure cooker for four whistles, or slow-cooked for up to four hours. To maintain freshness, store in an airtight container in a cool, dark, and dry location. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
